Types of Roosevelt Elk Hunts

Roosevelt elk live in southern British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon coastal areas. They are also huntable in a few re-introduced herds in coastal Alaska. They generally live in thick coastal rainforest habitats, making hunting for them quite challenging and rewarding.

Smaller in antler size than Rocky Mountain elk – a record book Roosevelt elk will score 290 inches – they make up for that in body size and often can tip the scales at over 1000 pounds. So if you are trying to harvest all 29 North American big game species or achieve your elk slam, you will need to hunt Roosevelt Elk. Or maybe you are just looking for a new elk hunting challenge and want to chase these bulls in the thick and rugged country they call home. Either way, a Roosevelt elk hunt should be in your future.

Hunting methods can vary based on the season, weather, and terrain. Archery hunts, generally in September, often represent the best time to take a giant as the rut will be on. Plan on using calling as well as ambush tactics. And once firearms seasons come in – generally October and November – some still hunting, ambush, glassing, and spot and stalk methods will be used.

The terrain will generally be thick coastal rainforest with the occasional clearcut. Think hilly, rugged terrain and usually short shot distances, often 5-20 yards for archery and less than 100 for rifle hunts. Bring your rain gear too. We can tailor the hunt for you based on the level of physicality you would like. And accommodations can vary from remote spike camps to wall tents, cabins, local hotels, and lodges. With beautiful coastal scenery and thick terrain, a hunt for large-bodied Roosevelt elk will bring lifelong memories.

Places we offer Quality Roosevelt Elk Hunts

We offer Roosevelt elk hunts in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia and are always seeking out additional areas and outfitters. Our locations and outfitters are carefully selected based on the quality and quantity of animals and the outfitters’ track record of putting our hunters on good elk. We are passionate elk hunters here at Infinity Hunts and understand what it takes to get a big elk on the ground.

Oregon Roosevelt Elk Hunts and Outfitters

We work with several outfitters in Oregon and offer quality hunts for those looking to harvest a respectable Roosevelt elk or those looking to harvest a record book trophy-class Boone and Crockett Roosevelt elk. Archery seasons run from late August through September and occur during the rut; most tags are over the counter. We also hunt a few areas with special draw or landowner (LOP) tags. Rifle seasons usually are in November. Many rifle hunts have easy-to-draw tags, while others take several points to draw. We also have access to guaranteed tags – either LOP tags or Guide/Outfitter tags. We can also help you purchase a Governor’s tag if you have deep pockets. Discuss what you are looking for on your hunt, and we can arrange a tag.

These hunts will take place on a mix of public or private lands, generally in some rugged coastal thicker terrain. Sometimes we catch elk in open clearcuts as well. Our outfitters put in quite a bit of scouting to locate good elk. Accommodations can vary from wall tents to nicer hotel/lodge type accommodations, and access will be from trucks, side by sides, and on foot.

Elk here typically vary from 4×4 bulls to extremely large 6×6 or larger bulls. We have taken bulls over 350 inches in Oregon (290 inches is All-Time Boone and Crockett).

Washington Roosevelt Elk Outfitters and Hunts

Washington produces some good Roosevelt Elk. We focus our hunts in the Southwest corner of the state. These coastal rainforests are thick, and often shot opportunities are very close range. On these hunts, we recommend not passing on legal bulls. Most trophy bulls will be 5×5 type, and there are 6×6 300 plus inch bulls in all areas we hunt. Archery seasons are in September during the rut and again in December. Muzzleloader season is in October, and rifle season is in November. Methods used will be calling, spot and stalk, still hunting, ambushing, and glassing. Lodging can vary between motels, cabins, wall tents, and spike camps. Tags are over the counter.

British Columbia Roosevelt Elk Hunts and Outfitters

If you are looking for huge Boone and Crockett trophy class bulls and have deep pockets, we like coastal British Columbia. Our outfitters take bulls over 400 inches on these hunts! Archery hunts in October and rifle hunts in October and early November both produce some giants. These hunts come with guaranteed outfitter tags. We can tailor these hunts to you – whether pick-up truck access or a hard-core backpack hunt, our proven outfitters can get you on a dream trophy bull.
