Trophy Class Tule Elk Hunts

We love finding those incredible ranches in California for world-class trophy tule elk and putting our hunters in those camps! Our trophy tule elk outfitters consistently produce 6×6 and larger elk, a few in the 260-270 class but most in the 280-310 class and some larger. You can expect to be hunting ranches that produce 290+ inch Boone and Crockett record book elk. Our outfitters manage their properties with conservative harvest quotas to help deliver great bulls for our hunters. Our extensive research and outfitter connections can help you find that trophy tule elk you have always wanted.

Types of Tule Elk Hunts

Tule elk are not well known by many hunters but are a must-have experience if you are trying to harvest all 29 North American species or achieve your elk slam. Found only in California, most hunts are done on large, well-managed private ranches using guaranteed Private Land Management (PLM) tags.

The tule elk name comes from the tule sedge, which has historically been a favored food source around freshwater marshes. Their breeding cycle is slightly different from other elk, with the rut varying based on the ranch location but generally in August and early September. Hunting seasons run from mid-July to the end of December, but most hunts occur in August and September. Ranch terrain can vary but is generally hilly with open hillsides and a mix of trees and vegetation.

In California, only lead-free ammunition is legal, so be prepared with a good copper bullet. Archery equipment also works great for these hunts. We tend to know where the elk hang out and will do a lot of glassing and some hiking to get into position for a harvest. Accommodations are generally very nice on these hunts. The weather in California during your trip will likely be hot and dry. These hunts provide an excellent opportunity to bring a spouse for sightseeing along the California coast.

Places we offer Quality Tule Elk Hunts

We offer hunts in southern and central California and continually seek out additional areas and outfitters. Our locations and outfitters are carefully selected based on the quality and quantity of animals, types of terrain, food sources, genetics, and the outfitters’ ranch management practices and track record of putting our hunters on trophy elk. We are passionate elk hunters here at Infinity Hunts and understand what it takes to put you on the right ranch.

California Tule Elk Hunts and Outfitters

Trophy bulls will generally be 6×6 or larger bulls, a few scoring 260-270 but most in the 280-310 class with bulls up to 330+ inches taken. All-time Boone and Crockett record book bulls will score 290 inches. Sometimes management bulls are available – these would be 5×5 or smaller bulls that are just never going to be 6x6s but are mature and a great trophy nonetheless. And some ranches will also have tule cow elk tags available. Depending on when you are hunting tule elk, it is sometimes possible to add hogs or Columbia blacktail deer to your hunt.

We are constantly in the field seeking additional great outfitters and world-class trophy tule elk hunts. So if you are looking for an excellent tule elk hunt and outfitter, please contact us so we can start putting together the perfect tule elk hunt for you.
