We love finding those incredible locations throughout North America for world-class trophy desert bighorn sheep and putting our hunters in those camps! In our book, any older age-class desert bighorn ram is a trophy as you will earn yours with some blood, sweat, and tears. Our western US outfitters have proven track records of putting clients in front of mature rams when they are fortunate enough to draw a tag. And our outfitters operating on large private ranches in some states and Mexico are diligent conservationists, working hard to make land and habitat improvements to put more and more sheep on the mountain. Therefore, we always target older age class rams on these hunts. Our extensive research and outfitter connections can help you find that trophy desert bighorn sheep you have always wanted.
Did you know that North America has four different types of desert bighorn sheep? The Desert bighorn sheep (nelsoni) lives in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, and Utah. The Mexican desert bighorn sheep (mexicanna) inhabits Arizona, New Mexico, and Mexico, primarily in Sonora and Tiburon Island, with a few other isolated restored sheep populations in Mexico. The North Baja desert bighorn sheep (cremnobates) lives on the north end of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico and is not legal to hunt. Finally, the South Baja desert bighorn sheep (weemsi) inhabits the southern end of the Baja California peninsula of Mexico and Carmen Island. What does this mean? Well, there are three different types of desert bighorn sheep you can go hunt!
The reality of desert bighorn sheep hunting is that unless you can draw a coveted tag in the western US, you will have to purchase special permits available in some states or a premium tag in Mexico. These are incredible animals to hunt if you are fortunate enough to have a tag in your pocket. Hunts will always occur in rugged, desert terrain, usually in hot weather with many critters that want to bite you or plants that want to stick you. If you are a sheep nut, this will sound like a good time! And it is, as hunting these desert warriors is an incredible experience.
Hunts can vary regarding best times of year to hunt, accommodations, level of physicality, and hunting methods. But, in general, plan on lots and lots of glassing trying to catch a glimpse of a big warrior ram. We always recommend talking with your consultant about what you want for your sheep hunt. Whether you want a management sheep on a private ranch in Mexico or are seeking a Boone and Crockett caliber ram, we can help you.
We offer desert bighorn sheep hunts in Mexico and Texas with guaranteed tags. We also can help you pick a trusted outfitter if you are fortunate enough to draw a coveted limited entry tag in the United States. Our outfitters are carefully selected based on the quality and quantity of animals in their areas, recent population trends, methods of access, and the outfitters’ track record of putting our hunters on good sheep. We are passionate sheep hunters here at Infinity Hunts and understand what it takes to get a big sheep on the ground.
We work with a few hand-picked outfitters in Mexico. We have been boots on the ground with these outfitters. These hunts take place on several different intensively managed free-range ranches, in several areas, with good populations of sheep and great age-class structure. So first, let’s discuss what sub-species of sheep you want to hunt, trophy expectations, time of year, and any other species you may want to hunt. Then, we will recommend the proper hunt and start planning a trophy desert bighorn sheep hunt for you in Old Mexico.
We have access to landowner tags for free-range fair chase desert bighorn sheep in west Texas. These hunts are very limited each year, and we welcome you to come to participate in scouting trips throughout the year. The tags are valid for several months to allow ample opportunity to harvest a mature ram, normally in the 165-170+ class.
Did you draw a coveted tag in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, or Utah? Lucky you!!!! We can help recommend outfitters with proven track records in getting hunters on sheep.
